BYD Reveals New Qin Max EV Ahead of Official Next-Month Launch

Ahead of its planned official launch next month, BYD has released new images revealing the interior and exterior design of its upcoming Qin Max EV. The flagship sedan is set to expand BYD's popular Qin family as a larger sibling to the Tesla Model 3-sized Qin L.

Lu Tian, the general manager of BYD’s Dynasty series, announced on Friday that the new model has officially begun arriving at dealerships. According to Tian, BYD "created a completely different B-segment fast-charging sedan for young people" with the Qin Max, describing it as the "super-sized" entry in the Qin lineup positioned directly above the Qin L.

Specifications and Dimensions

While the Qin Max was among the new energy vehicles (NEVs) approved for sale by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) earlier this year, BYD claims the Qin Max represents a completely new offering. According to the MIIT filing, the Qin Max measures 4,866 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a 2,790 mm wheelbase. By comparison, a Tesla Model 3 measures 4,720 mm long, 1,933 mm wide, and 1,442 mm tall, featuring a 2,875 mm wheelbase.

The Qin Max will offer both pure-electric (EV) and plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The EV variant features an electric motor with two power output options: 160 hp (120 kW) or 321 hp (240 kW). According to CarNewsChina, the electric sedan will be paired with 52.868 kWh and 64.315 kWh BYD Blade Batteries. These battery packs deliver CLTC ranges of 330 miles (530 km) and 391 miles (630 km), respectively.

Fast-Charging Tech and Design Features

Anticipation for the larger sedan equipped with Flash Charging has been building on Chinese social media. Though BYD has not revealed all specifics, vehicles featuring its new Blade Batteries 2.0 and Flash Charging system are capable of charging from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, or from 10% to 70% in five minutes.

Visually, the Qin Max carries over the family design language, featuring a closed-off grille, slim LED headlights, and a full-length LED light bar. From the side profile, its shape resembles the Tesla Model 3. Inside, the cabin is fitted with a large center infotainment display, a smaller instrument cluster, a wireless phone charger, and a two-spoke steering wheel. Like most new vehicles from the automaker, the Qin Max is expected to come equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye B intelligent driving and ADAS system.

The arrival of the flagship sedan follows last year's release of the Qin L EV, which started at 119,800 yuan ($17,500) and achieved over 10,000 unit sales in its first week. Additional official details regarding the Qin Max are expected closer to its launch next month.
