BYD Teases Flagship Great Han EV Ahead of World Premiere with 1,008 km Range

BYD has confirmed critical details regarding its upcoming flagship electric sedan, the Great Han (known as the DaHan in China). As reported by Electrek, the new model marks the first D-segment flagship sedan within BYD’s Dynasty family and is slated to make its official debut next month at the Chengdu Motor Show, running from August 21 to August 30, 2026.

Lu Tian, general manager of BYD’s Dynasty series, confirmed that the electric sedan will offer a CLTC driving range of up to 1,008 km (626 miles) on a single charge. Ahead of its world premiere, the EV was spotted driving in public for the first time in a video shared by Thinkercar, revealing its complete exterior design on the road. This public appearance follows an initial glimpse last month when the vehicle was included in a batch of new energy vehicles approved for sale by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Big Battery and Super-Fast Charging Capabilities

While specific battery capacity figures have yet to be disclosed, BYD confirmed the Great Han will utilize its new Blade Battery 2.0 paired with Flash Charging technology. Utilizing 1,500 kW technology, this setup enables vehicles equipped with the new battery system to recharge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes. A broader recharge from 10% to 97% takes only 9 minutes.

In terms of physical dimensions, the Great Han measures 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,510 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. These dimensions make BYD’s new flagship larger than both the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air, bringing its overall footprint closer to a long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class.

Powertrain Specs and Expected Pricing

Buyers will have a choice between single-motor and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations:

• Single-Motor (RWD): Delivers 370 kW (496 hp) via a rear-mounted electric motor.
• Dual-Motor (AWD): Produces a combined output of 570 kW (764 hp).

Positioned as the sedan sibling to the flagship Great Tang (DaTang) SUV, the Great Han enters a lineup that has already seen significant demand. Lu Tian previously noted that the Great Tang SUV garnered over 100,000 preorders prior to its official launch after opening orders at the Beijing Auto Show in April. Given that the Great Tang's presale prices start at 250,000 yuan ($37,000), Electrek estimates the Great Han sedan will likely start at roughly the same price point, or potentially slightly less.

According to Tian, "more surprises await" when the flagship officially debuts in Chengdu.
