ENVO Drive Systems Unveils Modular 18-in-1 Utility Personal Transporter

Canadian company ENVO Drive Systems has revealed its Utility Personal Transporter (UPT), a modular electric vehicle platform designed to configure into as many as 18 different vehicle types. According to the manufacturer, additional combinations can be created using optional accessories and upgrades.

Rather than producing separate models for distinct applications, ENVO utilizes a common chassis. Buyers can customize this core structure into vehicles ranging from low-speed vehicles (LSVs) and golf carts to utility ATVs, cargo haulers, and industrial transport vehicles. The company likens the platform to a skateboard chassis for smaller electric vehicles, while comparing the build process to LEGO bricks and IKEA’s modular furniture approach.

Platform Customization and Technical Features

ENVO states that buyers can select pre-configured models or design a vehicle from scratch using an online 3D configurator. Available selections include different chassis layouts, drivetrains, battery packs, steering systems, wheels and tires, seating configurations, cargo beds, bumpers, chargers, and additional accessories.

Depending on the specific setup, the UPT is expected to feature:

• Individual wheel traction control
• Crawl mode
• Over-the-air (OTA) software updates
• Smartphone integration
• Accessory power outputs
• Solar charging readiness
• IP67-rated environmental protection

Targeting Low-Volume EV Production Costs

According to ENVO founder Ali Kazemkhani, the goal is to rethink how light electric vehicles are designed and sold. Kazemkhani noted, "Most manufacturers sell one vehicle for one job. With UPT, we build one platform that users can tailor into the perfect vehicle for what they need today and adapt for what they may need tomorrow."

ENVO states that the platform spent four years in development to address the challenge of low production volumes in niche EV markets. By mass-producing a common base platform and offering post-purchase customization, the company intends to deliver purpose-built functionality without high costs.

Targeted applications for the UPT include farms, resorts, warehouses, airports, municipal fleets, construction sites, campuses, delivery services, recreational use, security, and mobile businesses like coffee carts.

Pricing and Production Timeline

Pricing for the UPT is expected to range between US$8,000 and US$12,000 based on the chosen configuration. Pre-orders are currently open, with production scheduled to begin in late fall. ENVO expects initial customer deliveries to start in early 2027.
