Ford Partners with Apple to Integrate Apple Maps into Next-Gen Universal Electric Vehicle Platform

Ford and Apple announced a new alliance on Thursday, confirming that Apple Maps will be directly integrated into Ford’s upcoming Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform. Powered by Apple’s new MapKit for Automotive SDK, Ford stated that vehicles built on this platform will offer "a beautiful and easy-to-use navigation experience."

According to the announcement, the integration will launch with Ford’s midsize electric pickup in 2027. UEV-based vehicles will deliver turn-by-turn directions using real-time data, EV routing, and battery preconditioning directly through the vehicle's navigation display.

Beyond basic navigation, Ford plans to utilize road-level data from Apple Maps to enhance its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology. Ford noted that the new Apple Maps data will assist in delivering "a more seamless on-ramp-to-off-ramp experience." Development for this next-generation automated driving technology is managed by Latitude AI, a Ford team consisting of 600 experts in machine learning, robotics, and software focused on advancing Ford's in-house hands-free, eyes-off automated driving system.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services and health, praised the collaboration following the announcement. "Apple Maps delivers the best map experience in the world, and we’re excited to bring the power of Maps’ navigation technology to Ford’s innovative Universal Electric Vehicle Platform," Cue said. He added that Apple’s MapKit for Automotive SDK will supply Ford drivers with "an incredibly accurate and easy-to-use navigation system."

Ford CEO Jim Farley confirmed that the new midsize electric vehicle will carry a price point around $30,000. Farley described the upcoming electric pickup as "simple, useful, and truly attainable for more customers."

Scheduled to go on sale in 2027, the midsize pickup will serve as the debut vehicle for the UEV platform. Ahead of its official release, prototypes of the electric pickup have already been spotted during road testing, providing early looks at the vehicle's overall size and design.
