2027 Toyota Sequoia Gains Trailhunter Trim and Light Refresh

Just days after unveiling updates for the 2027 Tundra, Toyota is bringing a similar set of revisions to its full-size SUV counterpart. For 2027, the Toyota Sequoia receives a light refresh that brings a revised front end, updated technology, and a dedicated off-road Trailhunter package.

Because the Sequoia shares its TNGA-F platform and optional hybrid powertrain with the Tundra, these upgrades come as little surprise. Exterior modifications are subtle, featuring a lower front bumper with a slightly chunkier look and an even larger grille than before. The front bumper also now neatly integrates rectangular fog lights.

The Trailhunter Package Arrives

The biggest news for the 2027 lineup is the addition of the Trailhunter package, which is based on the entry-level SR5 trim. To prepare the SUV for rough terrain, Toyota equips the Sequoia Trailhunter with upgraded suspension components from Australian specialist Old Man Emu—the same firm that supplies the dampers for the Tacoma Hybrid and 4Runner Hybrid Trailhunter variants.

Additional off-road gear on the Trailhunter includes:

• Front recovery hooks
• Extra underbody protection
• A locking rear differential
• Multi-Terrain Select drive modes and Crawl Control

Visually, the Trailhunter model sets itself apart with unique bronze wheels and distinct Trailhunter badging.

Technology and Safety Revisions

Inside, the base SR5 trim abandons its previous 8.0-inch touchscreen in favor of a 14.0-inch display, making the larger screen standard across the entire Sequoia range. The upgraded infotainment system introduces new voice-assistant functionality alongside a standard built-in dash camera system capable of recording 20-second clips.

Safety technology also takes a step forward with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. The suite—which includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beams—benefits from improved detection capabilities and upgraded hardware.

Lineup and Availability

Across the broader lineup, Toyota notes that the available grille-integrated LED light bar is now brighter. Additionally, RIGID fog lights and front recovery hooks are now offered as options across all Sequoia trims. The vehicle will remain available in six distinct trim levels: SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone.

According to Toyota, complete specifications and pricing details will be released before the 2027 Sequoia officially goes on sale this fall.
