Toyota Updates the Crown for 2027 with New Tech, Mild Styling Tweaks, and Trim Price Changes

The Crown remains one of the most unique offerings in Toyota's American lineup—a high-riding sedan that blends crossover elements with traditional three-box styling. For the 2027 model year, Toyota is giving the vehicle a series of updates, including hardware revisions, small styling fixes, and updated pricing across its trim lineup.

Updated Hybrid Powertrains and Driving Tech

Under the hood, the 2027 Crown XLE, Limited, and Nightshade trims now feature Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, which pairs a 2.5-liter engine with electric motors on both the front and rear axles. Output figures for this fifth-generation hybrid system have not yet been published by Toyota.

For those seeking more performance, the range-topping Platinum trim retains its Hybrid MAX powertrain. Built around a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, the Platinum's output carries over unchanged from last year at 340 horsepower and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque.

All-wheel drive remains standard across the entire 2027 Crown lineup, though the mechanical setups differ depending on the trim. The XLE, Limited, and Nightshade rely on an electronic rear-mounted motor to provide extra traction as needed. The Platinum utilizes a full-time AWD system that intelligently shuffles power between the front and rear axles. Furthermore, paddle shifters are newly added to the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade models for 2027, offering drivers greater manual control over the powertrain.

Subtle Visual Refinements and Interior Features

Visually, the 2027 Crown receives minor exterior adjustments compared to the outgoing version. The Platinum model retains several exclusive high-end features, including a 10-inch head-up display, a power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, dynamic rear steering, and a hands-free power trunk.
