Xiaomi Unveils the Skynomad N70 and N90 Range-Extender SUVs

Following a preview earlier this month, Chinese technology-turned-automotive giant Xiaomi has officially unveiled its long-awaited full-size SUV. Launched under the new Skynomad brand, the offering includes two distinct models—the N70 and the N90—that are largely identical apart from their dimensions and seating configurations.

According to Carscoops, the Skynomad models break from Xiaomi’s SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV in one fundamental way: neither model is purely all-electric. Instead, both utilize range-extenders, pairing a 1.5-liter Changan engine producing 150 hp with electric motors and a battery pack. Because the engine never directly drives the wheels, its sole function is to generate electricity and keep electrons flowing.

Powertrains and Electric Range

Buyers can order the N70 and N90 with either a 52 kWh lithium-ion battery pack or a larger 76 kWh NMC unit. As noted by Carscoops, these battery capacities are as large as those found in some full electric vehicles. While this adds weight, it provides significant electric-only driving range.

In its base configuration, the N70 pairs the 1.5-liter engine with a single rear-mounted electric motor, while dual-motor setups are also offered. When equipped with the 76 kWh battery, the N70 achieves an electric-only range of 314 miles (505 km) on the CLTC cycle.

The larger N90 shares the same 'Kunlun' powertrain options. Due to its increased size and weight, its electric-only range drops slightly to 288 miles (464 km) with the 76 kWh pack. Carscoops reports that Xiaomi has not yet released range figures for configurations featuring the smaller 52 kWh battery pack. However, official details confirm that the 76 kWh battery can replenish from 20 to 80 percent in 18 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Dimensions and Interior Layout

Both vehicles share the same platform and measure 78.6 inches (1,998 mm) wide, but their remaining dimensions differ:

• N70: Length of 195.2 inches (4,960 mm), height of 70.2 inches (1,785 mm), and a 116.1-inch (2,950 mm) wheelbase.
• N90: Length of 208 inches (5,285 mm), height of 71.8 inches (1,825 mm), and a 112.2-inch (3,080 mm) wheelbase.

The added length and wheelbase allow the N90 to fit a third row in a 2+2+3 seating configuration to accommodate six passengers, whereas the smaller N70 is strictly a five-seater.

Inside the cabin, recent teasers revealed that the front seats in both models can swivel a full 180 degrees to face the second row. This functionality transforms the interior space into a mobile office or lounge.

Pricing and Availability

Built and sold in China, the standard N70 equipped with the 76 kWh battery starts at 259,900 yuan ($38,400). The higher-tier N90 Max starts at 299,900 yuan ($44,600). Deposits are currently open for both models, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin later this quarter.
